The main question of this week’s article is to answer what is a thermolectric dehumidifier and how does it work?
It is also called a Peltier dehumidifier because they use the thermoelectric effect that is also known as the Peltier effect.
That effect converts eletricity into a temperature difference through the Peltier module.
It creates a temperature difference and it’s automatically producing dehumidification.
It sounds like some basic Chemistry schools project, but yes it’s necessary to have, at least, basic science knowledge for a better and easier understanding of the whole process.

How A Thermo-Electric Dehumidifier Works
As mentioned above, thermoelectric dehumidifiers work by converting the electricity into a temperature difference that leads to dehumidification. That process is called The Thermoelectric effect (Peltier effect) and some people called label them as Peltier dehumidifiers.
The Thermoelectric Effect explained
The thermoelectric effect is simply a physical phenomenon that relates electricity to temperature change. It states that temperature differences can be converted into electricity and conversely, that electricity can be converted into temperature differences. It was founded in the 1800s by French scientist Jean Charles Athanase Peltier who applied a voltage through metals and created the temperature change.
This effect occurs inside the dehumidifier. The temperature difference is created within the module as one side of the module is heated up, while the other is cooled down.
That temperature change helps a dehumidifier in the dehumidification process.
Pros & Cons
Peltier dehumidifiers could be considered as both reliable and unreliable at the same time. They are operating with very little noise as they are really quiet when compared with regular compressor dehumidifiers.
However, the quality of the parts they are unreliable and it’s not easy to find the missing or broken parts. Though, they represent good value for money, especially when they are way cheaper than compressor units.
When people buy thermoelectric dehumidifiers they expect that they will be a good replacement for compressor dehumidifiers, but they are not as the moisture removal rate isn’t high as expected.
In the table below we got covered the Pros & Cons.
PROS | CONS |
Quiet operating mode | Quality of the parts unreliable |
Reliable | not perform as well as compressor dehumidifiers |
Solid design & Good value for money | moisture removal % is not high |
Thermoelectric dehumidifiers review
We have review best Peltier dehumidifiers, and here is our Top 3 pick.
Top 3 best Peltier dehumidifiers in 2022
Pro Breeze Electric Mini Dehumidifier
When it comes to portability Pro Breeze might be the best solution if you want to bring it up with yourself on a daily basis. It has had successful missions in the basements, bathrooms, offices or garages. I personally use this product at my office and I am delighted!
Eva-Dry Edv-2200 Dehumidifier
On the other hand Eva Dry Edv 2200 is the best choice if you need a dehumidifier for smaller rooms. The product could also be portable as it’s small enough to be hidden out of sight. It has a rather small capacity, tough, but the good side is that it’s a reliable energy saver.
Rinkmo portable mini dehumidifier
I recommend Rinkmo if you have a tight budget. Rinkmo is another good choice for smaller rooms. For smaller unit type it has a rather big tank capacity.
Overview
Dehumidifiers that use the thermoelectric effect of producing the temperature change to cause dehumidification, which is also known as the Peltier effect, are called Thermoelectric dehumidifiers
The thermoelectric effect (Peltier) occurs inside the dehumidifier. One side of the module heats up, while the other site cools down which results in making the temperature change that facilitates the dehumidification process.
