Comment: Need strong hands
Rated:
This review is from: macLwood (Michigan)After looking through all reviews for various models, I chose this dehumidifier for a VERY damp basement with an attached crawl space. It works great! The musty odor in my basement is gone and the humidity level has dropped dramatically. It’s a little noisy, but still a lot quieter than 2 others I had previously. (I had to shut one of my old ones off at night so I could sleep … this one, I forget it’s on).
The dirt floor in my addition’s crawl space seems to generate more moisture than usual, and I could probably empty the bucket every day but have one BIG problem … being a small person (5′), my hands are not large or as strong as they used to be, so I have a real “battle” trying to get the bucket out. The pail won’t budge if the latches aren’t released at the same time and apparently I just don’t have the umph to do both at once.
So, if you don’t do hand exercises regularly and lack torque in your fingers, make sure you have a strong person around to empty the thing. That is the only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars … seems a consciencious engineer could have taken ALL people into consideration and made the bucket easier to remove.
PS: The cord could be a little longer too! Most basement outlets are higher above the floor, which uses up almost the entire length of this short little cord … forget moving the unit away from the wall after it’s plugged in. Frigidaire, you can leave the wheels off until you make the cord longer. (I’ve considered using an extension cord, but the directions say I shouldn’t do that.)

Comment: Shiny, sleek, fairly effective.

This review is from: M. R. SpirawkFirst, I was impressed with the packaging. You cut the straps and lift the whole box off and the product is just sitting there in a light bag ready for you. Someone put thought into that and I appreciate it. When you take the bag off you say Oooooh! Shiny! This is a good looking dehumidifier lol. Every side of it is nicely designed and finished – there is no ugly “back” that needs to be hidden. This is one of the reasons I went to some effort to buy this particular unit and I’m not disappointed!
Operationally my feelings so far are generally positive also. The bucket is nicely integrated into the design, has a handle, and is smooth and easy to remove and replace. The unit itself has a large pull up handle on top, two recessed handles on the sides, and casters, so it is easy enough to move around. The compressor is so quiet I wasn’t sure it was running. There is no groaning sound from it as I’m used to on dehumidifiers. Perhaps it is a rotary compressor. The air flow is loud in my opinion however. The air outlet is on the side of the unit, which is nice as it allows you to position the dehumidifier with it’s back against a wall. However the outlet is small, with the result that the air flow velocity is high, and yeah, it sounds like a jet plane, especially on the high fan setting. A small jet plane perhaps, but it has that kind of strident tone that is annoying rather than the more acceptable whooshing sound of a typical fan. It also appears that it emits a series of loud beeps to alert you when the bucket is full. I’m not sure I’ll feel a lot of urgency about that issue when it alerts me at 3 AM, but I’m sure that beeper can be found and removed with a little effort.
So overall since it seems to remove water from the air adequately, and since I have moved it further from my bedroom door, I have decided I will be happy with it. I only hope it lasts longer than the 2-3 yrs that I seem to experience typically with these things.

Comment: Keeping our basement dry
Rated:
This review is from: Terri Pollhein “farmlife4014″ (Penn Yan, NY United States)We had a problem with dampness in the basement of our hundred year old house. My husband asked me to get a couple of dehumidifiers to take care of that problem.
After reading some product reviews I bought 2 of the Frigidaire 50 pint dehumidifiers. They have worked beautifully since I bought them a couple of months ago. Using a simple garden hose I was easily able to have the water drain directly into the sump pump, so except for occasionally rinsing out the filter, these dehumidifiers are zero care!
The one concern I had was a couple reviews I read mentioned noise. I have not found that to be a problem at all. I am very happy with this product!

Comment: Efficient but noisy & wrong Timer Mode
Rated:
This review is from: AMZ Customer “AMZ Customer” (Atlanta, GA)I have big basement with hardwood floor. I run 2 45-pint comfort-aire dehumidifiers simultaneously. Setting the humidity at 50%, the 2 comfort-aire never can pull the humidity down to 50% in the Summer. Each comfort-aire bucket gets full twice a day. The comfort-aire in general last for about 2 years. I have burnt several comfort-aire. I bought this 70-pint frigidaire model in July 2009. So I have 1 45-pint comfort-aire and this 70-pint frigidaire running. After 2 days, the humidity reached 50% and they stop periodically. Here are the good and bad of the 70-pint frigidaire:
The good: Very efficient
The Bad: 1. Much noisier than the comfort-aire, not recommended for running near you. 2. The timer mode can only be used as an one-time delay start or delay stop. It does not allow you to run, for example, 1 hour on, 1 hour off continuously. The timer mode design is wrong. 3. once the desired humidity is reached, the humidifier will shut off but it would turn on within a minute due to the humidity from the water bucket and run for 10-20 seconds and turn on in a few minutes for 10-20 seconds continuously. This is one reason that the dehumidifier won’t last long. To prolong it’s life, it’s best to run every other hour. I did this with an external timer at the power outlet. I learned this after burning a few dehumidifiers.
